Website Behavior Tools Comparative Analysis
This research initiative stemmed from the need to gain unprecedented insight into user behavior on Tanium’s corporate website. As the lead and sole designer, I recognized the importance of designing with data and establishing UX patterns grounded in real user interactions.
Goal: Evaluate and compare website heatmap and behavior analytics tools to recommend a solution that could be procured and implemented for Tanium’s web team.

Comparative analysis research between Hotjar and Mouseflow
Research
I began by reviewing leading tools identified on business software review platforms such as G2. After aligning Tanium’s requirements with available solutions, I narrowed the list to two top contenders: Hotjar and Mouseflow.
To ensure a thorough evaluation, I studied each platform’s documentation, explored their help centers, and scheduled demo calls with sales representatives to fully understand their capabilities and limitations.
Findings
Based on my analysis and presentation to the web team and VP of Brand Experience, Mouseflow was identified as the best fit for Tanium’s needs and security requirements.
Impact
The research received buy-in from leadership, developers, and the broader web team, leading to a purchase requisition submission.
While procurement ultimately redirected us to Microsoft Clarity due to existing technology stack alignment, the initiative marked a turning point: for the first time in Tanium’s website history, the team began integrating behavioral data into design decisions.
